I agree with hoser that the message is ‘you are not good enough, but you are, kinda.’ You can’t accommodate these contradictory messages without mental meltdown. Heard is getting right In there with questions he has no right to ask. Whatever happened to making your own decisions on these things without big brother sticking his nose in?

I am in the same situation as wannabefree. My wife has also lost her spiritual head. She doesn’t even go to zoom meetings for other reasons (anxiety) but the man she married who went on to serve as an elder doesn’t really believe any more and that’s a bit of a tough one for her.

When our coordinator suggested that he had badges we could wear for the zoom convention, I thought at first that he had lost his marbles. Reading some of the very tolerant posts on this thread got me thinking that even if I don’t want to do it, others might. Whatever floats your boat!

We had this too some years ago but only to get a ballpark figure of how much the cong could afford, not a solemn pledge.

The Bible Students became well-known for proclaiming that “millions now living will never die.” At the time, they did not understand that the Kingdom message had to be proclaimed more extensively. Still, their zeal was remarkable. Ida Olmstead, who began attending meetings in 1902, recalled, “We knew that for all mankind great blessings were in store, and we never failed to tell this good news to those we met in the ministry.”

The article quotes the “millions now living will never die” talk and then says this.
Jehovah’s loyal people were enjoying renewed activity and fellowship. However, some Bible Students had left the organization during the troubled times from 1917 to 1919. What could be done to help them?
The Watch Tower of April 1, 1920, contained the article “Let Us Dwell in Peace.” It made this warm appeal: “We feel sure . . . that everyone possessing the spirit of the Lord . . . is willing to forget the things that are behind, . . . to dwell together in unity and proceed as one harmonious body.”
Many responded to these kind words. One married couple wrote: “We are satisfied that the past year and more has been a mistake in standing idly by while others did the [preaching] work. . . . We hope that we may never more be led astray.” These reactivated workers had plenty of work ahead of them.

Did You Have Good Relationships With The Elders?
by minimus inmy experience was that most jws wanted to have an elder “friend” just in case they got into any “trouble “.kinda like knowing that certain cop who might get you out of a jam.
.
of course there was another group who did everything they could to either kiss the elders’ ass or stonewall them anytime they came snooping around.. how did you and the “older men” get along?.

I was one of the “older men” for twenty years. Now I just stonewall them when they get too close.
